Craps Does 5 Count Work

The key concept to every system in my book, Beat the Craps Out of the Casinos, is the Captain’s “5-count;” a deceptively simple yet revolutionary method of craps playing. Without the 5-count, all my other methods of play would just be intelligent betting strategies. I doubt if I would have been capable of a ten-year winning streak or of making my living at the craps table.

The concept is simple. A shooter has just been passed the dice, and he is on his first come out roll. You do not place any bets. The shooter must make five successful rolls of the dice before you risk your first bet. That’s the 5-count.

Does the house edge in craps work in your favor? While all games in the casino have a house edge that favors the casino, craps is one of the games with the lowest house edge available to the player. It only takes slight variations in the outcomes of the dice rolls to make a big difference in building your bankroll. The fire bet is a somewhat uncommon craps bet. Usually this is a special craps side-bet that players can make over a multi roll period. The payouts are enormous and not all casinos will allow this kind of bet since this one is kind of advanced and is usually used by professionals and experienced players.

What is considered a successful roll? On the first roll (the come out), the shooter must hit a point number for the 5-count to begin. Thus, if the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 on the come out, the count is at one (or “1-count”). If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 on the come out, the count has not begun.

On the second, third, and fourth counts, any number rolled will be included. Thus, if the shooter rolls as his come out a 6 and then rolls an 11, the count is at two (or “2-count”). Then he rolls a twelve, and the count is at three (or “3-count”). Then, he rolls a 2, and the count is at four (or “4-count”). On the fifth roll – which from now on we’ll call the 5-count – the shooter must again roll a point number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 for the count to be completed. Thus, the 5-count starts with a point number and ends with a point number.

With the successful completion of the 5-count, your betting will begin.

Whether the shooter makes his point or not is irrelevant to the 5-count. For example, say on the come out the shooter rolls a 9. The count is one and his point is 9. On the second roll he rolls an 11. The count is two. Next, he rolls a 9. The count is three. His next come out roll, regardless of what it is, will be the 4-count. If, for example, he rolls a 6 and then rolls another 6: the first 6 was the 4-count, and the second 6 was the 5-count. Your betting would begin.

Of course, if the shooter sevens out, the count is terminated. Also, the count does not have to begin on the first come out roll. If you arrive at a table and the shooter is in the process of rolling, the very first roll you witness will be the 1-count – if that roll is a point number. Then, you would continue from there. One important thing to note is that you do not have your bets working during a come out roll. Most casinos and riverboats do this automatically, but if you should be placing a bet after the 5-count and it happens to coincide with the come out roll, the dealers might ask you if these bets are working. Tell them no.

If a shooter sevens out within the first five counts, you begin the process over with the next shooter.

The 5-count is devastatingly simple yet it accomplishes what no method or system in craps has ever accomplished: it automatically eliminates in advance all the horrendous rolls – those rolls that seven out immediately after the shooters have established their points, or within several rolls. Thus, you are only risking your money on shooters who have a chance for a good roll.
